Power Down Day

As part of our on-going Eco-School work we  will take part in the ‘World Day of Action, Power Down Day’ on 4 December.

The Eco-Council have designed posters to put up around the school and spoke to their own class to help raise awareness of the day. The P4 to P7 Eco-Councillors also informed P1, P2 and P3 classes about how we should try to reduce our energy consumption on ‘Power Down Day’.

Ideas included turning off some of the lights in the corridors, resource areas and classrooms; switching lights off when leaving a room and not using the computer and interactive whiteboard for the day!

Each day during the week the P7 Eco-Councillors will take readings of our energy usage for the day. This would help us to work out our average daily energy usage. We are aiming to save approximately a quarter of our average daily usage on ‘Power Down Day’.

P3 have been learning about ‘Electricity, Energy and Experiments’ and are encouraging their families to also have a ‘Computer Detox’ on Thursday evening. They will be talking about other ways to have fun apart from using their devices! We would encourage you to do follow their lead!
