Home Learning - Winter/Summer Term 2020

18/05/2020

Core Literacy Task 1

Focus: Writing/Sentence Work

Task: Weekend news – write a sentence about what you did at the weekend.

Support: To be completed as independently as possible.  If support is given, please leave at least one word for your children to ‘have a go’ at themselves.  Please indicate any support that was given – e.g. spelling, formation, finger spaces, full stops.

Upload: Please save to the Literacy Assessment folder.

All the P1’s have made fantastic progress and I’m so proud of them all.  Please praise all their independent work.  They are doing great and you are all doing a brilliant job supporting them.

Core Literacy Task 2

Focus: Use of phonics to spell

Task: Complete the Seesaw Writing about Farm Animals activity

Support: To be completed as independently using their phonics to spell.  Don’t help with sounding out this time.  Remember spelling won’t be perfect at this stage and if they can only write the initial sound that is fine.  Please give lots of praise and encouragement. J

Upload: Please save to the Literacy Assessment folder.

Core Maths Task 1

Focus: Addition

Task: Complete P11 in the Addition to 5 booklet.

Support: To be completed as independently as possible.  Use of fingers, numicon or other counting resources is fine.  Please indicate any support given including number formation.

Upload: Please save to the Numeracy Assessment folder.

Core Maths Task 2

Focus: Estimating/Counting

Task: Use objects to make sets up to 10.  Can your child make a sensible guess to how many without counting?  Record their answer.  Ask them to count to check.  Record the actual number.

Support: Please support to make sets and record their answers.  Children may not guess correctly but a sensible guess will be something close to the actual number.

Upload: Please save photos or their recorded guesses and answers to the Numeracy Assessment folder.

Finish Off Friday/ Play Based Learning

Take some time to complete any unfinished tasks with particular focus to the four core tasks.

If you are all up to date, why not make a tactile number 8 and a k, or any other letters or numbers your child struggles with.  Then allow them some time to trace over the letter with their finger.  The purpose of the tactile formation is to help a child learn by means of muscular and visual memory.

ICT - Coding

Continue with the BeeBot direction/coding work using the website below or the BeeBot app.  It is tricky so needs lots of practise.

Autumn Term

Our first topic is 'Ourselves' and we will learn about our bodies, our homes and our school. In Literacy, we will look at stories together, develop book handling skills, retell stories and learn some tricky words. We are developing our 'phonological awareness' through lots of careful listening activities. Soon we will begin to learn the sounds that letters make. We will be doing lots of counting and learning to form our digits correctly.

We enjoy both indoor and outdoor play!

We love to use practical maths resources and the interactive whiteboard for learning games.

Using the Quiver iPad app to make our colouring come alive.

In November-December, we have enjoyed our 'Autumn' topic.  We have enjoyed lots of Autumn themed play activities and have been reading Percy the Park Keeper stories. We have been learning about seasonal changes as we moved into Winter.  We have continued to enjoy lots of nursery rhymes and songs including I hear thunder, Scarecrow scarecrow and 5 little pumpkins.  We have been using Jolly phonics to learn our sounds and have been practising segmenting and blending to read words.  Some of us are even starting to write words ourselves.  In Maths, we have consolidated our learning on numbers to 5 and enjoyed practical sorting and pattern activities.

After our Phonics work, we enjoy a variety of literacy based activities in Taskboard.

We used Seesaw on the iPads to draw a picture of our half term. We then recorded ourselves talking about our picture.

Autumn themed play

Some of our maths and writing work during our Autumn topic.

In December our play changed to Winter/Christmas activities.
